This is the guitar I am bidding on now.

(Danelectro U2 Reissue, seafoam green).

I doubt I will win it; I put in a ridiculously low bid, but every once in a while that works. This would be my second Danelectro. My first was a 6-String bass that I ebayed off back in 2003-2004. I somewhat regret that now-- I had an idea for how I want to use it. (It would be perfect for my Mutorcs stuff, but I guess you never part with a guitar you won't regret later).

UPDATE: whoops, outbid on the guitar. So it goes.

UPDATE UPDATE: I consoled myself with a bid on a ring modulator that is going away in 9 hours. I love me some ring mod!

Currently working on: Last(?) HKNR single. I find I suck at Nanoloop again, which is refreshing.

Possible future projects:

Mutorcs country EP,
possible psychedelic project of some kind. Something very experimental.
acoustic songs

ABCs and 123s.

The long and short......................goals (Pervs) [Jun. 25th, 2008|10:43 am]

molly_sigh
So since it's been a long while since my last entry, I'll start with a few woohoos!

I won $2 in the Mega Millions drawing with my lucky number 13. WooHoo!
I graduated from the University of Baltimore with my Bachelor's Degree. WooHoo!
I received Magna Cum Laude honors. WooHoo!
I have paid $4000 towards my debt in 4 months. WooHoo!
I went and saw ZZ Top play and it was awesome. WooHoo!

So now I'm trying to evaluate where I am in life, where I want to go, and how I want to do that.

1) Pay off my credit card debt.
Obviously I have been doing well sticking to my goal. Actually the goal was to pay $1000 a month starting in June, but I got a head start so I'm ahead of schedule. At this rate I'll hit or exceed my goal to be paid off by June of next year.

This goal was started with another goal in mind.

2) Start saving a down payment for a house.
As I finished my payment plan to my credit cards, I was hoping to contribute the same amount a month to a savings account in hopes to buy a house sooner than later. I haven't given up this idea, but there have been some other situations arise that I find are more important than stressing out about buying a house. So an apartment within 6 months seems like a better plan.

3) Buy a damn Vespa already.
I've talked about it for more years than I should have, and I am buying a Vespa in the next year. But first I need to...

4) Get my motorcycles license.
I just need to find a class close to home. Apparently those things are booked up awhile in advanced.

5) Go on a vacation.
I still have a little money coming to me due to G-Ma's passing, but I'm not sure when I'll get it. I'm thinking I might invest this into a nice vacation for Shawn and me. We deserve it.

6) Get a real job.
Ha. I have a real job, but I have goals inside this goal that are not being met.
* I want to be closer to home.
Everyone has been feeling that crunch but driving a hour both ways every day for $11 an hour isn't cutting it. Ideally I'd love to have a job close enough to drive my Vespa to work.
* I'd like to make more money.
I've worked the hourly rates and minimum wage since I was 14. I think it's time I try to make enough money from one job rather than working three. A salary with oh my goodness, maybe benefits, would be welcomed.
* I'd like to use my degree as soon as possible.
While things are still fresh in my head and all my education still seems relevant, I'd like to find a job pertaining to my education. I'd like to feel that the last 4 years haven't been a waste.

7) I don't know...maybe...I'll get married.
Yeah. I want to get married. And this is definitely not a push on Shawn. He feels the same. We just have a few things to take care of with his finances before I am legally bound to them. And no there's no ring involved yet, but it's coming in time. There's no rush. Oh but this will all occur in Vegas. Small and awesome! You'll have to pay your way there if you really want to be there. It's amazing to know someone wants to marry you...

8) Oh and lose some weight.
The last two years of college made a much plumper Lauren. And even though Shawn loves my big ass, I do not. And it's time it goes. I've been trying to get into the habit of biking. On my pedal bike and exercise bike. I've missed yoga too.

9) I'm learning to cook.
Even if I poison my family in the process. I am going to learn to cook and bake pies.

10) Read.
I have an addiction to Barnes & Noble. I love the smell. I've collected so many books in the past few years without having time to read them.

So instead of bar hopping like a few years ago, you can find me saving my pennies by reading a book while pedaling away on my exercise bike, watching my current eBay auctions and hopefully not burning my pie. At least that's the plan. There are always bumps, hills, sometimes even canyons, that get in the way of plans so we can only wait and see.

Ultimately the theme is to live minimally in order to afford more fun, travel, etc. That's what more important to Shawn and I more than a big house and fancy cars. Well...Shawn has his project car...but that's affordable.

So yeah. That's my life as of now.

I've been working on learning this song all weeekend. I think I want to do a quiet acoustic version.

The first part of the chorus has that little trumpet part that I think I am going to cut out. It just sounds too mellow for the song, but maybe it's the instrumentation that I think is annoying. It probably sounded great on piano. Right now it's like "Walk on by.." (doot doot-doot doot--doot doot).

I love the harp-sounding electric piano throughout the song.

The second part of the chorus has this interesting piano run (it sounds like something Ben Folds would do- listen for it- he may have ripped this part right into Brick) that I want to do, that doesn't really fit into my acoustic arrangement yet. It cuts in right at "I break down and cry..."

I love that part. Maybe as a bass part.

I love Dionne Warwick's vocals anyhow. And look at her arms! Well, she was really pretty. I wish she had never done that psychic friends crap, I really like her.

Ok, so here is the Mutorcs first album:

Joe had suggested "Hang Loose With The Mutorcs" as a title. The other title I had thought of was "Only When I Drink", and to keep in with the testicular theme with the theme I had thought of "Caught on a Nail". Maybe I will save that for a future project. Every song has the same instrumentation: two bass guitars (one of which is fuzzed), drum machine, singer. I played both basses, sang, etc. The drum machine is an Alesis SR-16. I included a cover of Bob Dylan's Buckets of Rain. I almost picked out Donovan's Sunshine Superman (well, Serenity picked it out for me, but she's so right). I may still get that one together though.

  • Who Wants to Live in a Lonely World? (2:11)
  • Off the Rails(1:33)
  • Saving it up for Amanda Bynes(1:05)
  • Buckets of Rain(2:30)

I'm not sure if I want to stop and call this a project or keep going. My goal was a 4-song type deal.. enough that would fit the entire thing comfortably on a 45rpm single (you get 6 minutes per side).

So to me this is cool. Now I just need some cover art....

If I do another Mutorcs album, I want to follow the same format (instrumentation, 4 songs, one cover)

    Mutorcs track #4.

    Buckets of Rain

Ok, so I am not Bob Dylan.

I may have to redo the vocal take, this was actually a first take.
